The Black Company borrows its name from The Black Company series by Glen Cook. Like the series, annals of the Company's doings and battles are kept.

The Company was founded at an [[The Art of War XLII/2008|Art of War]] by six original members, four of whom are still with the Company. Primarily a fighting group, the Company works together on and off the field. Individuals are free to pursue their own goals within the SCA, but the goal of the Company is to always support and work with each other. The Company is made up of fighters primarily, currently divided into the Wolf Pack (a spear group) and the Bear Pack (a sword and shield group). There is also a smaller support group of non-fighters.
