Jacob is known to favour rum of any kind and has a distaste for the company of Norsemen following a series of altercations involving the Grump Fenrik of the Lost Vikings. He also has a distatse for the company of late-period 'gentlemen' following several altercations with Ambrose Silverharp of Bitter End, also known as Ambrose Dwarfflinger. In truth, Jacob gets along almost exclusively with pirates and their sympathizers.

Much to his chagrin, Jacob was awarded an Award of Arms by King Gunnarr and Queen Gabriell of An Tir on 9 November A.S. XXXVIII, being 2003 Gregorian, for conspicuous merit assisting Alen Bendbow with voice heraldry at the September, A.S. XXXVIII Crown Tournament event held by the Barony of Borealis. Despite his best efforts Jacob is still seen by some as an upstanding member of the Nobility, occasional indulgences aside.
