Many of the records of the early history of An Tir comes from the Kingdom of the West, and its History of the Kingdom of the West website. Also, see the An Tir Handbook for Countess Melissa's A Brief Timeline of the History of An Tir.

The First Events

What was to become the Principality of An Tir began on December 31, AS IV, 1969, with a New Year's Eve Revel held in Portland, Oregon, soon to be the Barony of Three Mountains. One month later, a "Sewing Fest and Practice Session" was the first event to be held in the new Barony of Madrone, Seattle, Washington.

Creation of the Principality

On May 27, AS VIII, 1973, there was a Royal Tourney of Union, held in Madrone. King Paul and Queen Carol of the West signed the charter that formed the unnamed principality. Memories of some of the people involved can be found here.

First Coronet Tourney and Investiture

On August 25 that year, the principality held its first coronet tourney at Snoqualmie Falls, WA, won by Sir Frederick of the West Tower for Anne of the White Tower, who were Baron and Baroness of Three Mountains at the time. It was at this event where the name of An Tir, Gaelic for "The Land" was chosen.

First Crown Tourney and Creation of the Kingdom of An Tir

September 5th, AS XVI, 1981, the first Crown Tourney was held in the Barony of Lions Gate, to determine the first King and Queen of An Tir. It was won by Master Manfred Kriegstreiber for Lady Morag Campbell of Glenbourne. Their Coronation happened at the following Twelfth Night, January 16, AS XVI.
