* [[Doireann Dechti]]'s memories of Birthday Bash XXXIII/1998
I'm fairly sure that I won't forget all of the people I met at my first event, but I want to write it all down anyway.
Lady Theodora of Cyprus (Now HL Antonia Fraser) had been my next door neighbor for almost two years before I ran out of excuses and finally allowed her to drag me, and my son Jesse (Now Ninian), to one of her medieval events. This was on June 20, 1998. I was hooked right from the beginning. One of the first people I met was a young teenager (maybe even pre-teen?) named Brandon (now Lord Brand) who pointed to a 14" tripod and told me he had made it. Of course I doubted such a feat - but after knowing Brandon for a short time, I realized my mistake! I recall many of the people I met on that first day. Lady Qiturah (now Sayyida Halima), Lady (Now HL) Marina, HL (Now Master and Baron) James the Tormentor - and his giant Peach! Rionagh (Now Baroness and Mistress Theocarista) and Bill (Now Master and Baron Uilliam); Lady (Now HL) Elizabeth, HL Meredith, Mistress Gudrun, Duchess Megan, Lady (Now HL) Mairi, Aubrey, Lord Marcus, Lady Desamona, Lady Scathach, Lady Christine, and Lady Muirgheal, who gave me the name "Morel" on that first day. We didn't want to leave, so Christine the Good was kind enough to share what she had with us in the way of food. I had brought cherries, and I recall being shocked when Aubrey began popping them into my mouth! I would later become more accustomed to such SCA-style familiarity. At a meeting shortly thereafter, I would meet Jamie the Impaler (Now HL Kjartan) and Ceara, who would later be swept off her feet by an archer and bard from Lions Gate.
