A herald's badge on a necklace.

When used with a capital H, Herald is a title referring to a person at a particular level in the College of Arms. Used with a small h, a herald is a person who works regularly on some aspect of heraldry.

As a branch officer, the herald is responsible for the various heraldic activities in their branch: court heraldry, town crying, tournament heraldry, and assisting people with name and armory submissions.

The generic badge of the heralds is two crossed trumpets. Many heralds are represented by a heraldic tabbard with their branches heraldry.
