Coming from the I-90 West and East;

1. Take the 281 exit to Hwy 2 (N. Division). 2. Go North to W. Francis make a left at the W. Francis light. 3. W. Francis is also Hwy 291. 4. Continue west; stay on the right lane, until W. Francis turns into N. Nine Miles Rd. 5. Drive North passing Nine Miles Falls (on your left), keep going North on Hwy 291. 6. You will inter Stevens Co. 7. Continue north, you will pass a Zip’s on your left, a small shopping center and gas station further on the right, you are now getting closer. 8. Continue north, you will see mile markers, pass marker 16 at your left, you will see Sundown Rd, Villier Rd and to your right, mile marker 17, the next left is the site, it will be clearly marked.

Take Hwy. 395 south, it will turn into Hwy 2 or N. Division. Continue south until you reach N. Francis, take a left at N. Francis and follow the directions from # 4 above. Or Take Hwy. 395 south until you reach Hwy 231. Take Hwy 231 south take a left into Hwy 291. Continue on Hwy. 291 pass the town of Tumtum; continue south the site will be to your right.

Note: If you look it up in Google Map, as you come from the south, the site will be directly to the left of a red building pass the Corkscrew Canyon Rd. letters on the map, the road is marked but not named. The Hwy 291 number and the number 6318 are right pass the driveway.

Instructor: HL Michael of Lancaster Bodkin Arrowheads Forging socketed bodkin points for armor-piercing arrows, plus broadheads for those who wish to try period hunting. Instructor: Master Ulrik Grimwolf de Montazure Chainmail Basics Learn the basics of chainmail construction, from simple butted to riveted mail. Discussions on historical use and evolution of chainmail, ring making techniques and sizing, and simple 4 in 1 construction techniques. Demonstrations on riveted mail construction and repair. Demonstration and hands on instruction in making simple byzantine chainmail jewelry. Time: Saturday, 9 a.m., 3 hours Fees: 2 sizes of colored aluminum rings will be available for $5 per bag. Instructor: HL Sessidi MacThoy Bamboo: An Intro to Sumi-e (Japanese Black Ink Painting) This class will introduce you to the art of Sumi-e. You'll learn about the art form, tools and techniques, and get hands-on experience in painting bamboo. Sumi-e is the Japanese style of Ink Wash Painting dating back to the 7th century. Sumi-e paintings have a few commonalities to make the painting come alive: such as Notan (the various tones of gray), simplicity of subject, and variations in wet/dry brush strokes. Unpainted areas support the viewer in moving around the painting. All of these factors and more are important for the sumi-e artist to capture the essence or personality of the subject. Instructor: Mistress Madrun Gwehyddes Intro to Tablet Weaving This class will explore the difference in approach, aesthetics, and technique between modern and medieval tablet weaving. Students will make their own tablets, learn to prepare a circular warp, and will learn how to do simple diagonals and double-face techniques. Students bring a chair, scissors, note taking equipment and a loose long cloth belt (like a bathrobe belt). If they own a band weaving shuttle or beater/weaving sword it would be good to bring them but it is not necessary. Teacher supplies tools, thread, tablets, belts for those who need them, handout and equipment. Time: Saturday, 9 a.m., 4 hours Fees: $8 Class Size: 8

Instructor: Jarl Sir Styrkarr Jarlsskald Damasqunado de oro Students will learn how to prepare steel and inlay precious metal wire using the Spanish Renaissance version of this ancient technique. Instructor: Hon. Lord Takakane Seiiji Pewter Casting Learn to cast small pewter objects using plaster molds. One- two- and three-part molds will be demonstrated. We will also briefly cover the history of pewter, and various pewter alloys. Participants will have the opportunity to carve their own molds and cast in them. Instructor: Mistress Julia Sempronia and HL Fina MacGrioghair Food & Feasting in Ancient Rome This is a hands-on introduction to Roman food and feasting. Students will have a chance to prepare a Roman dish before sitting down to a Roman table. They will get to sample Roman food while learning about the complexities of Roman dining and etiquette. Instructor: Master Ruadhan O Fearain Producing a Period Poem This class will cover several basic poetic forms from across medievel Europe. We will talk the when and where of these poems while also practicing their form. At the end of this class you should have several poems and a better understanding of period poetic aesthetic and form. Master Fearain is an accomplished storyteller and oral researcher from the Barony of Wyewood. Specializing in oral poetics, and early period storytelling, Fearain brings years of experience and a hands-on approach to teaching. Class size 12, 1 hour duration, $1 for handouts. Instructor: HL Teagan McKie Intro to Lampwork Beads This class covers safety and basic lampworking concepts. Students will learn basic materials needed to lampwork with a Hot Head torch, as well as general tips for lampworking. This is a prerequisite to work on torches, either during free time or subsequent classes. Time: Saturday, noon, 1 hour Fees: $1 Class Size: 6 working, up to 12 max

Instructor: Mistress Morgaina of the Woodlands Brush Making Students will receive instruction on how to make their own brushes. We will look at Cennini, but brushes will be generally Oriental style. Materials Provided: handles, pelts, glue, linen thread, cutting board, Japanese saws, exacto knives, shaker. Students bring exacto knife if you have it and hair if you want to use something you have. Instructor: HL Teagan McKie Intermediate Norse Bead Lampworking This course will teach intermediate lampworking techniques to replicate beads from 800 - 1000 AD Scandinavia. Period glass working techniques will be covered for historical background. Students will be taught what sorts of beads were being produced and were otherwise available. They will then be shown techniques to produce those beads using modern lampworking equipment. Instructor: Mistress Richenda du Jardin Shell Gold or Leaf: Gold Gouache This class will demonstrate techniques for making gold guache shine like gold leaf. Such techniques include underpainting, pooling, and burnishing. Students need to bring their own brushes. They will take home a burnishing stone and samples. Instructor: Mistress Madrun Gwehyddes Carolingian Book Binding This class will focus on Carolingian book binding technique. We will discuss the history of bookbinding until this point, the changes in bookbinding in this period, and he variations that occurred. Students will learn to make one variation found in this period, and will leave the class with a bound book ready to be decorated or covered with leather or fabric. Instruction for completing the final stage will be included in the handout. Time: Saturday, 1:30 p.m. 4 hours Fees: $6 > Class Size: 8

Instructor: Marquessa Laurellen de Brandevin Anglo-Saxon Annular Brooches This class focuses on creating simple annular (round) brooches using inexpensive materials and tools. Most of these pins can be made in two hours or less and for a dollar or less each. While the focus for this class is mainly Anglo-Saxon embellishment motifs of the 5th through 8th centuries, the basic annular brooch occurs throughout the early and medieval periods and throughout Europe, making it a good item to have for almost every persona. Instructor: Mistress Morgaina of the Woodlands Drawing botanicals for Medieval Herbals, Scrolls and Fun. Using the medieval aesthetic to look at and draw plants. Students do NOT have to be experienced or "good" at art for this class. Materials Provided: examples, pencils, erasers, paper, handout and helps. Students are welcome to bring their own materials. Instructor: HL Mairghread of Wastekeep Wire Weaving I will be teaching a basic wire weaving class using craft wire. During the first hour I will teach how to begin your weaving and how to add more wire. During the second hour we will continue weaving and i will go over how to end the weaving and finishing and a couple of simple clasps. No cost for handout. I have a few inexpensive sets of jewelry pliers to loan students. I will also have some draw plates and wire you can use during class. Bring note taking supplies. Bring jewelry making pliers if you have them, that means no grooves on the jaws because they damage the wire. You will need at least flat nose and round nose can help too. Instructor: Katla járnkona Demystifying Counted Blackwork Embroidery The introduction to 'blackwork' embroidery (it's not always black) will teach you to use the Holbein stitch and give you tips on how to figure out how to take a pattern and make it reversable, the same on the front as the back. Students will be given a handout with patterns from a 16th c. Italian blackwork sampler, in a format to create your own sampler from several stitches. Students will be given a piece of Aida cloth, thread and an embroidery needle. You may wish to bring your own scissors. Bring a small round embroidery frame, if you prefer to use one (I find that the Aida is stiff enough to not require a frame). Time: Saturday, 3:30 p.m. 2 hours Fees: $1 Class Size: Max: 6

Instructor: Marquessa Laurellen de Brandevin Intro to Renaissance Oil Painting This class focuses on the two-part method of 'indirect painting' as practiced by Italian High Renaissance and early Mannerist masters such as da Vinci, Raphael, del Sarto, and Bronzino. In Part I, students will be guided through the under-painting process, in which the overall look and tone of the painting is established. In Part II, students will be introduced to the glazing process which introduces color to the painting. No prior painting experience is necessary! Instructor: HL Aerngaldra Hrafnskald Introduction to Natural Fibers and Spinning This is a beginner's introductory class on using the drop spindle to spin wool. We will cover some of the history of the spindle, information about sheep, wool & fleece types and their preparation for spinning, as well as how to develop and maintain good technique for drafting and spinning an even yarn. No prior spinning experience or textiles/fiber knowledge is necessary; you will walk away from the class knowing more about wool and sheep, as well as being able to spin your first yarn. This class will run approximately two hours, and if time permits, we will also talk about other fibers such as flax (linen), and silk. Time: Saturday, 3:30 p.m. 2 hours Fees: Informational handouts and all tools and materials for class use will be provided free of charge, however, if you wish to keep a drop spindle, a $5 materials fee is requested. Instructor: HL Ceawlin Silvertongue Elbow Cops My class is a beginner's primer on the steps needed for every metal armor project, but specifically in the making of what was called a `couter' or `cop' to protect the elbow. I will cover and take questions on the following subjects: measurements, research and design, patterning, cutting, deburring, forming (basic hammerwork, raising and boughing, both hot and cold), planishing, grinding and polishing, strapping, and maintenance. Participants will measure, pattern, cut, debur and form their couters using construction paper, scissors, a Beverley Shear, 16 ga. (1.6mm) mild steel, hand files, hammers, dishing forms and various stakes. All materials will be provided. Participants must be willing and ready to practice safety, as hand tools can be dangerous.
