==Fatimid Era Socks Created 2026==
This years colour is Gold/Yellow/Orange.  I chose it in the way of a true Gamer Geek.  I made a table, and rolled a die.  I decided this year, I would knit from the collections I had not previously worked from. I drafted all patterns used.

==Fatimid Era Socks created 2024 to 2025==
In a moment of insight, I decided to start colour coding my sock examples. 2025 is the year of green.  I also found two new brands of fingering weight cotton yarn.  This weight gets me much closer to the gauge (stitches per inch) of the originals.  Thanks to many people tagging me in a post, I was shown two new Museum's collection of full socks and fragments: Museum der Kulturen in Basel Switzerland and Musee zu Berlin fur Islamiche Kunst in Berlin Germany.  I look forward to exploring these new finds.
All the patterns shown here are drafted by myself.

==Fatimid Era Socks Created 2020 to 2023==
These socks were knit during the pandemic lock-down.  They are knit from Cascade Pima Cotton Fine yarn, unless otherwise noted.  The originals are Blue and White indigo dyed yarn.  I used
yarn from my stash to do this project.  The Stitches per inch are a bit big, but it was the best yarn I had available at the time. Each one of the socks below took roughly 10 hours each.  Finer gauge yarn makes it take longer.
Patterns for Textile Museum socks came from Ballinger Paper 1946, which I transcribed from pdf (of original typed paper) into MS-Excel and colourized for easier reading.
What changed: I learned better toe up sock knitting.  Also heel style investigations.  I had to learn After Thought heels, there is another type of heel that I am investigating, a wedge heel.  Both of these things were challenging.

Patterns for Metropolitan Museum of Art Socks were created by myself in a process of trial and error.  There are only two socks here.  The Long Sock is a full stocking with unknown calligraphy.  It is cotton.  The Short sock stops at the ankle.  The short sock is the only wool sock I have ever found.  It is made with Regia 4 ply wool yarn.
I did make a version pictured here with a Cotton yarn, which was then discontinued.

The only real sock I tried here was the famous Blue and White Allah sock, at the Textile Museum 73.697.  I love the Red and Yellow colours.  It is incomplete, as it does not fit, at all. I found the pattern on then Geo-cities website,
I made a lot test runs to figure out fragments, pictured here.  There is an error in the knitting of the 73.701, I have seen it.

VA Sock: I found this sock in 2014, but was frustrated in my attempts.  This is an incomplete attempt, knitted from the top down.  It simply did not work.  I then paused the knitting to learn toe up socks.
Textile Museum Child Ibex Sock: TM 73.700. I made two attempts, both pretty bad. Neither finished.

The next set of fragments where created in order to figure out the Met Museum short sock.  I also used this to learn scaling of patterns. Also the single surviving test knit for the Met Long sock.

Fatimid Era Socks Created 2026

This years colour is Gold/Yellow/Orange. I chose it in the way of a true Gamer Geek. I made a table, and rolled a die. I decided this year, I would knit from the collections I had not previously worked from. I drafted all patterns used.

These socks were knit during the pandemic lock-down. They are knit from Cascade Pima Cotton Fine yarn, unless otherwise noted. The originals are Blue and White indigo dyed yarn. I used yarn from my stash to do this project.

The Textile Museet in Sweden yielded up a solid BLUE full stocking. They were really wonderful in sending me high resolution pictures. Made with Cascade Pima Cotton Fine Yarn

I found the pattern on then Geo-cities website, I made a lot test runs to figure out fragments, pictured here.
