In most cases it is when the Crown has to remove the Baron and Baroness and needs someone to oversee the branch while They choose another. Sometimes also titled Castellan. The title Viceroy was also used in the early days of An Tir, at a time when Theodulf of Borogrove and Gerhard Kendal of Westmoreland were Barons of Madrone and Lions Gate, respectively. They were allowed to carry a white baton as a symbol of rank.
