Name/Blazonry

Eiryk Randsson

Eiryk (pronounced like the modern day name Eric) in Old Norse means "Eternal Ruler", and Randsson also coming from Old Norse translates to "Son of Shield". My father being named Randr which directly translates to Shield. This name has not yet been submitted.

No Blazonry has been created or submitted as of yet.

Persona History

Eiryk Randsson was the only child of Randr Vermundarson born along the coast of Norway in a Norse encampment in the year 923. Eiryk's mother died when he was very young, overcome by illness that she had fought secretly for years. His father Randr, was part of a raiding group that traveled along the coast of Norway and would also set sail to raid in Scotland and Ireland. It was during one of these raids in the year 935 that Randr disappeared. His body nor his weapons were ever found so it is unknown if he was killed during the raid or taken by unknown means. The rest of the raiding party searched for Randr but after a time the search was called off. Eiryk waited in Norway for his father's return, but when the raiding party docked and disembarked the ship he could not find his father. Einaar, one of his father's friends told Eiryk the series of events that led up to Randr's disappearence. Einaar told Eiryk that his father was a brave man, strong warrior and that he is either trying to get back to Eiryk or he is in Valhalla celebrating with Odin. As proud as it made Eiryk to think that his father died courageously in battle and was granted entrance to Valhalla he was still troubled.

Years past and Randr did not return. Eiryk took what his father taught him about being a warrior and a craftsman. By the time he was fully grown he was an accomplished wood worker. He would travel alone up and down the coast of Norway helping fellow Norse by building tent frames, tables and other wares. However, this was not his reason for travelling. All the while he was still searching for his father. The disappearence is a mystery that Eiryk has not been able to let go of even after all these years.

It was during Eiryk's travels in the year 945 that he met Birna Þorfinsdóttir and for a while his thoughts of his father lessened. As he got to know Birna and help her around her village he decided that he wanted to take her as his wife. Two years later they were married. Now together they travel, sometimes up and down the coast of Norway. Other times to Ireland, to Scotland, ever searching. Birna always faithful and loyal to Eiryk wants nothing more then to help him find his father. So he can finally be at peace.

SCA History

I heard about the SCA in the spring of 2009 from one of my co-workers, Chris (Johannes Konradsson). I told him I was interested and he mentioned that there was going to be a demo in my neighborhood coming up. I mentioned it to my wife Trish (Birna) who agreed that we should check it out. We day tripped to the demo and I was amazed by the amount of work I saw put into recreating the history. We almost made it to The Grand Thing that year, almost.

Our first official event was Autumn war. And wow, what an event. It was here that we were invited to camp with Havoc and we met Eoghan ÓBriain and his wife Mairghread inghean Dubhghaill. After many good times I spoke with Trish and told her that I think I would like to be a part of Havoc. She agreed. So I approached Mairghread inghean Dubhghaill and inquired what would need to be done. She said, "C'mon, we're going to talk to Sir Edward." We approached Edward Ian Anderson and I told him that Trish and I would be honored if Havoc would have us as part of their War Band. To which Sir Edward replied, "It would be an honor to have you both as part of the group."

Then at Acorn War, Birna was sitting with Sionaid ine Cullaich who she has become quite close with and they were discussing Men at Arms and Women at Arms. After the discussion Birna came to me and filled me in on just what a Man at Arms is. She also mentioned that Aeducan has never had a Man at Arms. Shortly after I spoke to Aeducan about becoming his Man at Arms. He also liked the idea. I am proud to be known as Aeducan's first Man at Arms.

At 12th Night AS45/2011 I received my Award of Arms.

Man at Arms to Aeducan Ui Niall.

Interests

Our tent, bed, stool, table and shield. All crafted by the lovely Birna (shown above) and myself.

Brewing

I was commissioned to brew some Mead for an upcoming celebration. While the mead was not yet quite a year old it was much better than my first batch. I continue to improve upon my recipe in the quest to find a most delicious mead.

I may need to try my hand at beer again. Though I was not happy with my previous attempt.

Woodwork

I love working with wood. Tables, benches, stools, you name it, I want to make it or have made it. A Norse slat bed was our latest venture. It turned out well and I have received multiple requests to help others make something similar.

Target Archery

I enjoy it, it's a challenge. Something I believe I could excel at if I spend the time.
