In Defense of NOT Turning the Other Cheek: The Medieval Christian Apology for War Instructor: Lord Cynewulf There is an interesting conceptual conflict at the heart of European medieval culture: it is spiritually dominated by a religion of peace, while also constantly engaged in warfare. The nations of the middle ages were conceived in war by warrior kings entrenched in the traditions of the warrior ethos. How did medieval Christians reconcile the admonition to forgive and `turn the other cheek' with the pervasive and deeply respected warrior heritage? BARDIC DISPLAY- 1 Point

A piece based on an epic moment in battle.

HEAVY SCENARIOS-3 Points Battles

Fouling from Behind will apply.

Field Battle -With Archery To the last fighter living.Defile Battle-No Archers/ Thrown Weapon On force must either kill everyone OR push the other force past that side’s designated marker.Field Battle- With Archery To the last fighter living

Princes’ Tournament of Heros His Majesty & Their Highnesses will each invite belted and unbelted fighters from Their forces to be paired in single combat, for a tournament of show.

For the fun of it….

Zombie Attack-No Archers/ Thrown Weapon The forces are divided into two groups, Villagers and Zombies. Villagers will be aiming to maim the zombies by taking limbs as zombies are so darn hard to kill. Zombies will be aiming for head shots as brains they must eat brains. If a villager is killed by a zombie they must die and count to 30, they can then rise and join the zombie force.

Defile Battle-With Archers/ Thrown Weapon On force must push back the other force past that side’s designated marker.

Champions Battle -No Archers/ Thrown Weapon To capture the flag as many times as possible over 60 minutes. The war field will be a set dimension and each side may choose a set number of champions. These champions may be tagged out with any fighter on their side during the battle but at no time shall exceed the original number. Anyone who carries the flag will be considered a “runner” this person will require full gauntlets and shall be considered “engaged” with anyone on the war-field at all times that they carry the flag. Deaths will put the fighter in their side penalty box, the boxes will be released in waves every 4 minutes. Fighters in the penalty box are counted as “in play”

TARGET ARCHERY- 3 Points Shoots

Populace Elimination -all welcome, 4 arrows to start, each stage will be a smaller target at an increased range, only arrows falling within the target will be allowed to be shot in the next round. By the 6th round should any be standing, it will be decided by closest to the mark.

Agincourt Run – The Princes {armored} will call forth their knights to defend them in a run against the enemies arrows. A 30 yard stroll, set # of war arrows per knight.. Arrows permitting this will be run side by side. First to lose a Prince loses. If both Princes cross the line, first across the line wins.

Siege Archery – Each side can have up to 2 teams of up to 3 people, they will be give a bag of what ever was left in the castle to make arrows which will then be shot for closest to the mark. There will be parts to make 3 arrows, as well as some useless stuff, the competition ends when the first team has shot its third arrow, the winner will be closest to the mark.

RAPIER SCENARIOS- 3 Points Battles

RBGs There will be a limited number of shots per side for the entire war. The sides may choose to use their shots in as many or as few guns as possible, and may use them in whatever scenario they wish. The number of shots per side will be equal to the number of fighters on the smaller side. IE if Avacal has 37 fighters & Tir Righ has 30 fighters, both sides will have 30 RBG rounds that can be used throughout the course of the melees.Death from Behind Death from Behind will be in effect in all scenarios. Normal rules for the application of Death from Behind will apply. Fouling from behind will also be permitted, if done safely and in accordance with the An Tir Book of Rapier Combat.

Scenarios

Warmup – Zombies vs. Villagers (no war point)

The sides will be evened up for this battle, and will not be divided along Principality lines. The villagers’ legal targets are limbs, which are then lost by the zombies. The zombies’ only legal target is head shots, shots which land on the mask or gorget, or a death from behind. A villager, after being legally struck by a zombie, may revive his or herself and join the zombie force after 30 seconds of violent transformation. The scenario ends when all villagers have been transformed, or all the zombies are limbless

Open Field Battle (No Resurrection) – One Point

The sides will meet in an open field and will clash head on for the greater glory of their respective Principalities. No resurrection will be permitted. The normal rules for RBG use applies. The battle will end when every fighter on one of the two sides has been defeated.

Capture the Flag, Woods (Limited Res) One Point The sides will meet on the same tree lined path that was epically contested last year. No time limit- but limited resurrections. The total number of resurrections available to each side will be equal to three times the number of fighters on the larger side. The scenario ends when one team captures the flag of the other and raises it above their heads. The resurrection points will be located just behind the flags of the two sides. The sides will meet on the same tree lined path that was epically contested last year. Hold the Fort (Limited Resurrection) – One Point

This scenario will be a timed holding of an artificial fort with at least two openings. Resurrections will be permitted for the defending side, to a maximum of 2x the number of fighters on the larger side. Resurrections for the attacking side will be unlimited. Victory will go to the side that can hold the fort for the longest time without exhausting their resurrections.

Five Man Melees (no war point): Teams of 5 fighters will be assembled, and will fight in a double elimination or round robin (depending on number of interested fighters) tournament. Each team must contain at least 1 fighter from both Principalities and may have, at max., 2 members of the Order of the White Scarf and/or Order of Chivalry.

Secret Points: There will be several top secret points for pre-determined activities through out the weekend, so do your best, you never know what might be worth a point to your Principality!

Volunteer Points: Each person has been given a token (coloured stick) to bestow upon someone they feel is working hard, helping above and beyond, or otherwise is inspiring by their helpfulness. That person can then place the token in the principality of their choice's box.
