Ailynn was first introduced to the SCA back in 1987. She was walking through the woods at Sequest Park in the Shire of River's Bend. When a knight in shiny armor said "Halt, Who goes there?" she followed him back to their encampment.

It was within the next couple of years that she joined the Shire and started playing with them. Over the next few years she became their Arts and Sciences Minister. She went to several classes and really enjoyed learning about soapmaking, paper making, book binding, and creating period costumes. She was a gardener in modern society. She wanted to see how they cultivated edible and medicinal plants in the middle ages. Then friends introduced her the Companion Gytha Anora ni Keran, OL. We became friends and she took me on as an apprentice.

Life Story

Christened Eibhlinn Catriona Moireach, a 16th century Scottish orphan who was raised by her uncle, Lord James Moireach of Atholl by the River Tay. "Ailynn" was taught to read and write. She was expected to run his household from a young age. Included in her duties was gardening, foraging, cooking and learning the sewing techniques of his profession. He was a Royal tailor to the house of Stuart and dealt with clothiers and cloth merchants from Flanders, Italy, England and France. She was often tasked with meeting the ships in the port Cities of Perth and Dundee at the mouth of the river Tay.

The Lady Ailynn went away to a distant land one day when she was kidnapped at the docks and made a slave. She escaped her captors in England 17 years later when a wood merchant from Finland saw her and helped her escape. Tedious the Wood Butcher and Ailynn soon married and created a life together while he made sawdust, and she either stitched or tracked in mud from the garden or the woods nearby while foraging. She is a lifelong learner. Her interests include: gardening and exploring the crops from medieval Europe, sewing, embroidery, inkle weaving, making leather shoes, herbal remedies, foraging and finding recipes to use her treasures, Norse wire weaving, beadwork, calligraphy and illumination, making kombucha, reading, preservation of foods for winter use. Almost anything artsy.

Ailynn was first introduced to the SCA back in 1987 (A.S.XXII). She was walking through the woods at Sequest Park in the Shire of River's Bend. When a knight in shiny armor said "Halt, Who goes there?" She followed him back to their encampment.

It was within the next couple of years that she joined the Shire. Over the next few years she became their Arts and Sciences Minister. She went to several classes and really enjoyed learning about soap making, paper making, book binding, and creating period costumes. She was a gardener in modern society. She wanted to see how they cultivated edible and medicinal plants in the middle ages. Then friends introduced her to the Companion Gytha Anora ni Keran, OL. They became friends and Gytha took her on as an apprentice.

During her time at River's Bend, she earned several shire awards. Her service was commended by a "Pat on one's Head" and two cattails in A.S. XXIV and A.S. XXVII. In the year A.S. XXIV (November 11,1989) an Award of Arms was given to her by King Tjorkill Kanne and Queen Hlutwige Wolfkiller . She and her friend Gillian Lenzi were co-autocrats for Irish feast and William Tell Tourney. Gillian and Ailynn both earned a Goutte de Sang for service to the kingdom in the year A.S. XXVIII (November 20, 1993) awarded by King Rorik Gunnarson and Queen Helena of Birka.

After her release from many years in captivity, she was recognized by King Athanasios Belisarios and Queen Alianora Greymoor for her work in costuming, scribal arts and various arts and sciences. Ailynn received a Griffe et du Lion on A.S. LVIII, (February 25, 2023)

While in her new Shire of Fire Mountain Keep, She became the Gold Key Mistress and Their Minister of Arts and Sciences (A.S. LV). The Baron of Glymm Mere, Alasdair Mac Roibeirt, and his Baroness Disa i Birkilundi called her into the Order of the Crystal on A.S. LVIII (August 12, 2023).

King Ulfgar Hjartar Bani Thorvaldsson and Queen Juahara al Azin saw fit to name Ailynn as a Scholar of AnTir for her 3 entries at the Kingdom Arts and Sciences Competition A.S. LVIII (March 2, 2024)

News spread to Their Majesties Erik Daegarsson and Brynhildr Ansvarsdottir of her skills and teaching to the populace in A.S. LXI (October 12, 2024) so they awarded her the Jambe de Lion.

Because her skills helped clothe kings and queens, she was given a Royal Clothiers Favor by King Nicolai Rabenis Von Tachov and Queen Ana de la Sara on June 21, 2025 (A.S. LX)
