The College of Arms of the SCA recognizes the permanent rank of Herald Extraordinary.
This rank was established by Master Wilhelm von Schlüssel, Laurel King of Arms, on the July 1981 Cover Letter.
Rather than being awarded by the Crown of a Kingdom, this award is traditionally given by the Principal Herald of a Kingdom (in An Tir, Black Lion Principal Herald) or by Laurel Sovereign of Arms, and is used to honor those who have made great and long-lasting contributions to Heraldry in their Kingdom or in the Society.
The rank is permanent, and bestows upon the recipient the right to register a permanent personal heraldic title.
As Heralds Extraordinary are, per the College of Arms' Administrative Handbook, permanent members of the Society College of Arms, the College maintains a listing of all Heralds Extraordinary with their personal titles.
The An Tir College of Arms lists in-kingdom Heralds Extraordinary on the College Staff Listing.
