Greetings! My name is Maricka. I have been a part of the SCA since 1994. I am a past landed Baroness of Blatha an Oir, An Tir and a Companion of the Laurel. I love to teach and I love to serve the SCA in any way I can. Teaching and volunteering is my muse. I study, teach and create a lot of historical arts however the main focus of my work is on historical beads. My bead focus is on Migration era and Viking age lamp work beads in Scandinavia and Western Europe. My minor bead focus is Roman and Egyptian glass mainly focusing on beads. I also research and create iron age apparel. (mainly male) and its focus is in Denmark and Anglo Saxon England an dhave been teaching classes on the history and creation of these garments since 2013. I am also a miniature portrait artist with focus being 16th and 17th centuries England.

My first event ever was Aquaterra's yule in 1994. I belly danced at the feast. I started playing in the Barony of Blatha an Oir in 1996 and in 1998 was honored with becoming baronial retinue. I have been active in the Barony since 1998 with the exception of a a few years that I lived in Vancouver WA.

Teaching: I teach a class on leather carving, beginning and intermediate lamp work Bead making, a class on embroidery for embellishment, and a 16 century Persian 2 hour class, lecture on basic history, apparel (mens and womens) textile, brief history. Lastly,Iconic imagery. Creating a male wrap around coat from the Germanic Iron age based on Archaeology and iconic imagery from the time.

13. An Tir West War cancer tourneys lamp worked necklaces. 2014. I made the beads and assembled the necklace.
14. Designed Their Royal Majesties Styrkarr and Dagrun Stjarna's coronation apparel. 2013  Dutchess Miranda contacted me and asked me if I could work on the project. I assembled a team of talented artisans to assist in the creation of the pieces. I did the tablet weaving, directed the artisans and coordinated the efforts to meet our goal and deadline. I also did seam finish, necks, and trim work on the apparel. Our team created a total of 11 pieces of apparel for them. 3 under tunics, three over tunics, 2 under dresses, one apron dress, one caftan coat, and one pair of pants. This project was a huge undertaking and would not have been possible without all of the timeless efforts, passion, and hard work of the Blatha an Oir clothier team.

16. Made 50 Vigil beads for Warin of Essex for his knighting vigil May Crown 2015
17. Made 50 Vigil beads for Verith de Prendergast for his vigil at May Crown 2015. Verith was made the last Don of An Tir.

30. Donated three lamp worked bead items that I made for the 2018 12th night peer auction. Two focal disk beads and one period women's viking age festoon.
31. Made lamp worked bead necklace for the Blatha An Oir Autumn War Event stewards for the years 2014, 15, 16. Handed out my personal lamp worked beads to every event steward team while I was Baroness of BaO

33. Making the Roman Garb and accessories for Andromacha Tou Lésvos for Gavinius' knighting ceremony. Research on roman garb for the clothing team with the focus on the use and availability of silk.
34. Random bead making for largess, site tokens, and gifts for people. Have given and donated over 6000 beads to An Tir in some form. My goal is to cover everyone in my beads one person at a time.
35. Creating caftan coat for Sir Geirleikr for his Step up ceremony as the new baron of Aquaterra. Step up Jan 2019

1. Designed Skapti Thorinsson's purple heart chair in 2004. Did most of the wood carving. There were a few pieces that my squire brother at the time did He cut out the chair) His Graces squire
Thalin purchased the wood and my squire sister at the time assisted in sanding.
2. Cut out and tooled and painted a custom leather belt that was won in a 12th night auction 2004.
3. Scribal work. Painted kingdom charters in 2004, 2009, 2010, 2014, 2015, 2016
4. Designed the Autumn War t shirts for the years of 2009-2011
5. Designed the Art of War T shirt for 2011
6. Scribal work for the Barony of Blatha an Oir. Pick up and paint extra kingdom charters when needed.
7. Designed the thrones favors for Duke Thorin and Dutchess Dagmaer for their last reign. Dec. 2011
8. Embroidered the spirals and pelican on Anharad Albannes Pelican cloak. 2012
9. Lamp work bead team for the Barony of Blatha an Oir to give out as site tolkens. 2012-2013 Made about 1500 total
10. Autumn War on event steward team from 2009- 2016 Also have co stewarded BaO events in the 1990s.
11: Named the event Embers and Ambrosia and worked diligently and tirelessly with the creation style and idea of the event for first two years it existed until it had become established and had come to fruition. The year after I became Baroness of Blatha an Oir I handed the event over to Odny Refesdotter who has continued to develop the event into Blatha an Oirs Premier A and S learning extravaganza.
12. My husband and I wanted to bring back Celtic Bardic to the Barony of Blatha an Oir in 2013. This idea was proposed at a business meeting and was granted. Worked very hard to promote the bardic arts in the barony as it was non existent. Asked the current Baron and Baroness of BaO at the time if we could have a bardic champion added to the Blatha an Oir baronial champions as well as have Celtic Bardic back. The request was joyously granted.
13. Designed the BaO Baron and Baroness legacy cloaks using input form the design team. The barony had no regalia for their Baron and Baroness as it was aged and needed replacing. I wanted the next Baron and Baroness to have regalia. They were finished by the baronial cloak team and presented in August 2017 
My current passion is Scythian art, jewelry, clothing and history. I have started to do archery in the past two years and am working on a Scythian costume to go with my horse bow and my custom leather quiver I made.
My focus is viking age period lamp worked beads and late Roman Era lamp worked beads in Scandinavia.

Fought heavy regularly for 4 years from 2003-2007 Won best new fighter at Mayfaire in 2004.
Fought at Estrella War in 2004, 4 An Tir West Wars. several in the Kingdom Wars including several Honey and Autumn Wars.
Stopped fighting heavy in 2010 permanently due to neck injury.
