Collette is a trouvere and jongleur from 13c. Venoix, a small village in France just south of Caens and a short ways east of Brittany. She often wanders both continental Europe and the British Isles, picking up and performing pieces for anyone who asks it of her. Trouveres and jongleurs were a pair of closely interrelated professions, both of which were on occasion taken up by women as well as men. The main difference between the two was that trouveres were generally noble and the composers of pieces but paid jongleurs to perform them. While it was uncommon for a jongleur to compose and thus also fulfill the job description of a trouvere, it was not unheard of. She also often learns poems either in Middle English or Middle French, using her fluency of modern French to translate the latter, to perform.
