The Avantgarde is the news letter for the Principality of Avacal.
The first editions were published in AS 18/1984 and named "Voice in the Wilderness." The region created the "Un-named Regional Newsletter" in Winter AS 20/1985 with Lady Rianna Von Heiniken and Lord Karl Von Saxon as Chronicers. It included recipes and instuctions for games (such as Gleek).
Once the region selected the name Avacal the newsletter became the "Avacal Regional Newsletter" and was published quarterly. The editors then held a contest in December AS XXV for a final name and ever since the Summer XXVI(1991) the newsletter has been called the Avantgarde (suggested by HL Sgt. Edward de Wolde from Valley Wold.)
The Avantgarde has been nominated 7 times for the William Blackfox Awards.
