I think the Egil's starting date given here may be wrong. According to some who were there, it should be 1975. This also fits since 2009 is Egil's 35 (remembering that unlike birthdays and anniversaries, the first year counts as one). I will try to track down documentation before changing it. -Raven

In that the first event that I and Mistress Elizabeth Piper (my mundane sister) attended was Egils III, in 1977, the listed beginning date is wrong wrong wrong. There can be no question concerning the year, in that it occured after we moved to Portland from Salem (Summer of 1976) and prior to Elisabeth moving to Eugene for college (Fall 1977); I have vivid memories of sewing my first costume, used at that event, in the living room of our Portland residence. This was during the "gap year" Elisabeth took between high school and college. Egil's III was at Vida, at least it was a state/county park. Egils IV was at Thor Haven, I believe it was called; I daytripped part of it with other friends from high school; my understanding is that it wasn't initially supposed to be held there, but that someone sent in unrevised event copy from an earlier Egils when reserving the date, and once publicized it was easier to get the permission to use the site than it was to make sure everyone interested in attending had the correct site location; it would be bad for half the attendees to show up at the wrong site, after all. I don't know which Egils, I or II, Thor Haven had been used for previously. Thor Haven was private Property, belonging to a member of the SCA, apparently. If all else fails, contacting the SCA Archivist/Librarian (A Corporate office) to see if they would look through the relevant issues of The Page should unearth this information; at least, they has those issues when I was SCA Archivist/Librarian, back ~1989-1991. -Ian Jameson
