Dietrich Eckhart von Katzenburg

Persona

Dietrich was born in the late 1400's in the town of Katzenburg, on the Neckar near Heilbronn. Dietrich’s family were wine merchants. Dietrich had an older brother and younger sister.

In 1508, a Landsknecht Hauptmann, Sir Arion, came through Katzenburg recruiting soldiers for his Fähnlein for an Italian campaign (to be known as the War of the League of Cambrai). Dietrich enlisted as a Landsknecht. During the course of the war, Dietrich served as a Dopplesöldner, and Trabant (bodyguard).

In 1515, Dietrich returned home after the war. He went to work for the family business in the wine trade. He married and had a child.

In 1521, the Italian War resumed in force. A chance for new challenges and dangers; and riches and rewards. Dietrich answered the call of the Landsknecht once again.

Returning once again from war in 1525, Dietrich found conflict at home in the Great Peasants' Revolt. He joined the Swabian Leauge’s forces, where he served again in Sir Arion’s Fähnlein.
