Persona

Allvaro Ferriero is the eldest son of a well placed Portuguese aristocratic family, and a military adventurer.

He was educated in the classics [the 'new' learning] music, the arts, and such military skills as suited to a gentleman. He is especially fond of the works of Marcus Tullius Cicero.

He added to his family fortunes with mercantile endeavours in India, in the colony of Goa. His winter home is in the hills near Lisbon, with a view of the Tagia river.

History

He has participated in the SCA from 1986 to the 1990's and again from 2000 to the present, all in the Barony of Lions Gate. He has run tournaments and wars, managed baronial practices, taught at Ithras and workshops.

He was Baroness' Champion of Rapier to Amanda Kendal of Westmoreland, and later to Aurora Argentius. He was also Baroness' Champion of Heavy Combat to Aurora Argentius.

Allvaro was made the premier member of the Order of the Garter of Tir Righ at Clinton in August 2005. This order was combined into the Order of the Hafoc by the subsequent Prince and Princess of Tir Righ. It is awarded to honour military contribution in all areas of arms: archery, rapier, heavy and the devotion and service that permits those arts to flourish.

Allvaro was admitted to the Order of the White Scarf at An Tir's 12th Night celebration, in January 2006.

Allvaro is an apprentice to Mistress Agnes Cresewyke.

Interests

Allvaro teaches basic to intense fitness, Italian and German Longsword, early and late period Italian swordplay, and is currently focussing on Marozzo. He also teaches modern, medieval and renaissance knife fighting; medieval and modern wrestling; cane fighting, quarterstaff, and studies many other armed and unarmed combat styles.

Allvaro sponsors the Companhia de Sao Martim, a company of soldiers which supports western martial arts students learning to participate in the SCA and runs the Scatha Combat Guild.
