Ástríðr gylðir
Summary
Hailing from the Barony of Three Mountains, Ástríðr began participating in the SCA in 2002; her first event was That Stinky Little War Over There 3 ½ which she day-tripped as a guest of the House of Hormones. She attended events off-and-on for several years, and in 2008 was inducted into House Jormungandr as its first non-founding member. In 2015 Ástríðr was given the role of Gyðja by Taðkr ormstunga, acting as second head of the Jormungandr household.
Persona
Ástríðr gylðirdóttir was born to Gylðir ónnuson and Rúna bogsveigir into 10th century Norway along its southwestern coast. Her mother and father were hunters and traders, teaching her the ways of hunting large game, birds, and foraging for natural treasures. The family moved north and south along Norway's coastline until Ástríðr turned 16, when her mother and father decided to settle into a village and spend the rest of their years in a stationary home. Ástríðr was not ready to settle down as she much enjoyed the nomadic life she was used to, and continued to travel and trade.
Ástríðr shortened her surname to gylðir to assume some anonymity. She made a living hunting and foraging, crafting trinkets and goods from her findings, setting up trades and selling her wares. She travelled up and down the coastline, giving her parents' village a wide berth. Several years passed and she grew wary and lonely. In a small fishing village she met Taðkr ormstunga, Senen meśou-nešed, Toomachi no Shichiro, and Anejiro no Tamiko as they gathered supplies. She joined them on their ship as they sailed west to find land to claim as their own.
