Behold! the Strange Fellow comes,

Stories in his wake,

Poetry in his mouth,

and History in his keeping.

Leather he tooled

into prizes worth winning,

for Egils and Amergins

and others besides.

Adiantum could use him

In Seneschal's duty,

He kept Councils timely,

And arguments short.

Two Egils he fostered,

To make word-fame and profit

And lay at the feet

Of the Two-headed Bear.

And Amergin's Revenge,

That weekend of Barding,

Was Lonergan giving

back something of his.

The Summits was happy

When Lonergan stood up

And unleashed on Kingdom

His persuasive tongue.

For birth-gifts he crafted

A Royal-signed Charter,

A Champion's Baldric,

And a Seneschal's time.

A flame-shaggy dealer

Of death to the Westies,

Lono the Laughing

Just laughs when he dies.

One look at his banner-

Saffron Celt cock-a-snoot-

Is plenty of warning-

Time for an ale.

Carp and crazy,

Laurel and loon,

Steady as the mountain,

He talks to the wind.

So, Lono or Lonergan,

Which shall it be?

You never can tell, so

Enjoy the show.
