Julia Sempronia
Persona History
Julia Sempronia (YOO-lee-ah sem-PROH-nee-ah) was born in 401 AD in the city of Uriconium, in the province of Britannia. Her father was a member of the Concilium of the Praesidis per Britannia Secunda, based in Eburacum. Her mother died when Julia was young, and she was reared by the Saxon wife of a local Cornovii farmer.
She married Marcus Valerius Firmus, a wine importer with large estates in the ager Falernus between Roma and Baiae. After the recall of the Comes Britanniarum and his forces from Britannia, the couple moved to a fortified villa in Campania, not far from Teanum Sidicinum. There, the family wine business prospered, in spite of the increasing difficulty in maintaining the trade routes and locating reliable suppliers of amphorae.
SCA History
Magistra Julia Sempronia ("Julilla" to her friends) joined the SCA in the fall of 2001 and worked on the steering committee to found the College of Cranehaven in central An Tir. She initially served the College as herald and chronicler for the first three years and became the group's second seneschal. She is a past Kingdom Seneschal.
Her passions include Roman cuisine and costume (she is a member of the An Tir Costumer's Guild) Latin poetry, which she recites with very little provocation, and archery.
Her first event was 12th Night in the Barony of Madrone, A.S. XXXVI. She received her Award of Arms in October, AS XXXVIII from Their Majesties Gunnarr and Gabriell, was chosen to be the Shire of Dregate's Bardic Champion by Their Majesties Skeggi and Taisiia in February, AS XXXIX (she is a proud honourary member of Dregate and Vulcanfeldt, successfully challenged the Shire of Appledore's Golden Swan Tournament in October of AS XL and was admitted to the Order of the Jambe de Lion by Their Majesties Sven and Signy.
She received her Order of the Goutte de Sang at the Shire of Dregate's Feast of Red Lanterns on 5 February, AS XLV from the hands of Their Majesties Skeggi and Taisiia and on the same night was accepted as a protége by Companion Amberley Sylvanus,OP. She was admitted to the Order of the Carp 21 May by Their Majesties Skeggi and Taisiia at May Crown.
She was first to achieve the rank of Courtier in the Barony of Vulcanfeldt on 7 August AS XLV and swore fealty to Baron Shannon O'Duncan and Baroness Regina O'Duncan.
She was elevated to Order of the Laurel, at 12th Night AS XLVIII and was invested as Kingdom Seneschal exactly one year later (apparently there's something significant about 12th Night life events!) was elevated to the Order of the Pelican at May Crown, AS L. She was offered the Belated Rose at September Crown, and made a Baroness of the Court at 12th Night in the year AS LIV
Magistra Julia has a passion for teaching, enjoys dabbling in recreating ancient cosmetic and fragrances from primary source documents, and enjoys recreating some of the more elabourate Roman hairstyles. She edited the Costumer's Guild quarterly newsletter, "From the Skin Out," in AS XLIII which received a Master William Blackfox award in August AS XLIII.
Her arms were registered in September of 2005 and are: Gules, a ram couchant contourny reguardant Or.
